Leadership is a key aspect of the College with the aim to nurture and encourage students’ sense of self and equip them with skills that will benefit across all aspects of their schooling and throughout their lives.

The leaders we want to raise

The College looks to produce strong, confident, capable young men and women who will be courageous in the face of challenges they encounter and have the essence to not only stand up but also take action for what they believe.

Every student has the potential to develop leadership skills and has the opportunity to demonstrate these skills through our inclusive leadership framework which provides an opportunity for all students to have access to leadership roles.

The College values—character, care and courage through Christ guide and direct how the College seeks to shape its young leaders. It is the aim of the College to develop students’ understanding of Jesus Christ, our model of a leader; in his servant's heart, his care of others and his dynamic and passionate life that captured the desires of his followers.

Junior School Leadership

Leadership in the Junior School promotes:

  • The expression of the College values of Character, Care and Courage through Christ
  • Leadership of Junior School students
  • Opportunities for serving

Informal leadership opportunities in the younger grades includes line leaders, canteen monitors and leading assemblies.

The Formal leadership positions include:

  • Junior School Leaders
  • Student Representative Council
  • Peer Support Leaders
  • Play Leaders
  • Library Monitors

Leadership skills are explicitly taught in Year 5 through the Year 5 Leadership and Character Development Program and in Year 6 through a two day Peer Support Training Program.

Senior School Leadership

As students move into the Senior School, they are provided with the opportunity to lead activities within their Year Groups as well as formal positions of leadership in the Peer Support Program, Student Council and the Vertical Program, House Captains, House-Vice Captains and, in Year Twelve, Prefects and College Captains.

Informal Leadership opportunities include:

  • Christian Leadership offers students an opportunity to be involved in and to contribute to the College’s Chapel Services developing skills in Christian leadership, presentation, planning and organisation as well as spending time reflecting on ways that they can enhance Chapel for their Year Group.
  • The Peer Support Program involves training Year Nine students who when in Year Ten will be mentoring and supporting Year Seven as they begin their first year in Senior School. Leaders build positive relationships with their groups and foster resilience and self-awareness within the students. Peer Support Leaders enhance their own skills in leadership, organisation and responsibility, as well as being rewarded by the role of service they play in other students’ lives.
  • The Student Engagement Group (formally Student Representative Council) provides students with a means of presenting ideas to improve the culture and life of the College. Members of the Student Engagement Group demonstrate leadership and communication skills, bringing forward productive and life-giving ideas.
  • Students in Stage Five and Six are invited to undertake a leadership role within their own Vertical Groups. Vertical Leaders facilitate discussion circles and run the fortnightly short challenges, which contribute to the overall House competition.
