Hairspray

The production team was delighted to present this Tony Award-winning contemporary and dynamic musical in May 2017. Apart from being a production filled with show-stopping songs, the themes that weave together to form the story are as relevant today as they were in the original 1960s setting.

Hairspray is a dynamic musical that has an important underlying message: that acceptance comes in all shapes, sizes, and nationalities. This production explores ideas including bullying, Civil Rights and discrimination during a period of tremendous social and historical significance in the United States.

We are grateful to all the students, staff and members of the wider College community who graciously donated their time to prepare and present such a wonderful performance. Their support enabled us to bring the community a Broadway hit complete with stunning sets, colourful costumes, creative tech and a highly energetic and talented cast.

Book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Music by Marc Shaiman. Lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters.
