GOLD for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Wednesday, Aug 2019 9:18 AM

On Sunday 28th July the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) travelled to the Conservatorium of Music to compete in the David Stanhope event of the NSW Band Festival. SWE’s membership consists of students from Years Eight to Twelve, some of whom have been playing for only a few years and many who have been playing since Junior School. The NSW Band Festival is a premier event on the performance calendar with bands travelling from all over Sydney and surrounds to compete. The competition attracts adjudicators from around the world and this year we were privileged to receive our adjudication from Jodie Blackshaw, a world-renowned Australian composer, performer and educator.
Bands are required to perform a program of three contrasting works, including a work by an Australian composer and a piece with a slow tempo. SWE performed Exuberance, an arrangement of Ave Maria and Jitterbug, a program that demonstrated their versatility. Their brilliant performance earned them a GOLD AWARD. Congratulations to each member on your commitment to pursuing excellence in performance.
